FAQ

What is the Mirror House?
The Mirror House is the new public information center for the New New Canaan Library plans. It was designed by ÖÖD house of Estonia, and is a prefabricated structure inspired by the Glass House and the mid century modern architects of New Canaan. The mirrored structure reminds us that the best libraries are a reflection of their communities, a principle that has guided the design and planning for the new Library building. Visitors with appointments are invited to enjoy the tour and the Mirror House for up to one hour.

What’s inside?
We have created a special, augmented reality tour of the exciting plans for the new building, with video technology that enables the viewer to hear from the architects, library staff and the volunteers who have spent years bringing this project to fruition. This tour was designed with safety in mind. Tours are private – individuals or family groups ONLY are allowed inside – our greeters remain outside the building to answer your questions or offer support as needed. There is no contact with surfaces once inside, and the building has its own air circulation system. Tours typically are completed in 20 – 30 minutes and each tour is scheduled one hour apart.

How can I arrange a tour? Can I bring my children?
Visit newcanaannewlibrary.org/mirrorhousetours to book a tour of the Mirror House. Or simply scan the QR code on the poster to the right of the entrance to be taken straight to an appointments page. Kids are most welcome and will delight in the way the pictures “talk” to them. We recommend that families of larger than 6 make two bookings.

Are there special requirements to attend a tour?
Download the free ROAR Augmented Reality app from the App Store or Google Play Store. A Library device may be provided if necessary. All visitors must wear a mask. Please stay home if ill. Please only attend with immediate family members, for distancing protocol. You may access our dedicated WiFi network for the Mirror House upon arrival: New Canaan New Library. Headphones are helpful! The entire tour takes about 25 minutes. You may stay as long as you like, up to one hour. A volunteer greeter will be there to meet you and answer any questions you might have.

How can I learn more about the project, become a donor or volunteer?
Go to newcanaannewlibrary.org, or email Ellen Sullivan Crovatto, Director of Development, at ecrovatto@newcanaanlibrary.org to discuss your contribution to the future of the Library.
