A Win-Win for the Community

Three cheers for the P and Z commission which voted on Tuesday night to allow the Library to proceed with a plan to maintain the integrity and promise of the Library Green while preserving the legacy building in a new location on site. The approved plan is for a building that is a usable, approximately 1,200 square foot space, which will be sited gracefully on the Library Green as shown below.

Let’s celebrate this as a Win – Win for the community. We will have the new and wonderful Library Green as a wide-open space for programming and community use as originally conceived AND we will preserve an historic edifice.

For now, our focus rests on achieving our $10 million fundraising goal which will complete the $40 million Capital Campaign needed to build the new Library while also managing this significant building project for the next year and a half.

Apropos of that, get ready for more exciting project updates from the building team. This week, the first concrete footings were poured and the real construction was begun. We hope you will be as impressed as we are by the swift progress being made.

Wishing all a Merry Christmas and happy holiday season,

Ellen
